Masks 33.1 - Leo and Waters [Cutscene] [RP]

What you know:
This is definitely the original…
He didn’t just play you… - Does the +1 include Persuade With Best Interest as well as Provoke?

It’s a strange feeling. Things making sense with his dad.

I have to say something.

None of the hurt is coming up with anything. None of the old memories, of being a kidnap victim, or an experimental subject, seem relevant here. Something has changed. Leo’s still 17, but somehow he feels the power dynamic shifting. He’s not a boy running from a powerful figure in the shadow. This is man to man now.

_Byron Quill and Achilles Chin destroyed each other through hatred. In another world, their hatred destroyed the world.

I won’t be another Jason. I won’t be victimized by a super-intelligent parent. I won’t make new enemies._

I have to say something to him.

Leo opens his mouth. Let whatever come out wants to come out, and we’ll see where it goes.

“I love you, dad. But I can’t let you hurt anyone else.”

He grabs Waters, and starts to run.

Yes!

Also, this reply is SO GOOD and do you mind if we stop right about here and continue in-game?

Sounds good. Rossum’s back, in a big way. Great job

So where does Leo go from here?

Once “there’s an army of Rossum robots out there” hits, he’s going to assume the following:

  1. Rossum built robots that are under his eventual control. That means there’s a code sequence, password, recognition pattern, or something that will let him give the bots orders.
  2. That control system was built into the bots when they were constructed. Original!Rossum was not physically present for that, and barring AEGIS compromise at that time, had no way to communicate in or out.
  3. That construction happened in Rook Industries facilities, and probably under the eventual supervision of clone!Rossum.
  4. As a consequence of (3), clone!Rossum knows the control system (or is it) and could give the bots orders.
  5. At this moment, Rosa Rook has control over clone!Rossum’s person.
  6. As a consequence of (5) original!Rossum and clone!Rossum realize that clone!Rossum is thus a liability, in terms of being a key to shutting down the bots. This means he’s either going to get killed, or the bots will try to extract him from Rook’s control, or there’s a mechanism to transfer control away from him.

If all that stuff is true, Leo’s goal priorities look like this:

  1. Use Phoenix to get hold of original!Rossum from this holding facility before his bots come to rescue him. Feels unlikely - especially if everyone in the place is compromised, and they can spirit him away undetected or with cover fire or something - but it has to be tried.
  2. Barring that, rocket back to Halcyon and tell Rosa Rook to give up the clone right f’in now, before he dies/is rescued/whatever, because he’s the next most likely key to stopping this army.
  3. Barring that, fight an army or some shit?

If there’s an Assess the Situation type move that’ll let Leo validate some or all of these assumptions - either from experience working with his dad’s tech, from direct examination of a damaged bot, from Waters, or a combination - that’d be great. “Get one of the Rossums to shut down the army” answers “how could we best end this quickly”, for example.

A question and an observation:

1. Is Leo aware of the Attack of a Million-Zillion Rossumbots?

2. If so, one tiny detail left out from the GM’ color text: “a very specific, identical, direction,” with that direction being left obscure. If Leo is aware they are all moving, is he aware of to where? If not … if they are all going someplace, then that’s most likely either here (to rescue / support Original!Rossum), or to the location of Clone!Rossum (to take him out, before rescuing Original!Rossum). Or someplace else cute, like the White House, or Vyortovia City, or Oakland Cemetery, or the Quill Block, or Cheyenne Mountain, or …

Knowing where they are going should inform further actions.

Probably not just yet, and I expect to learn that in session, respectively.

Leo, based on his roll, knows that the synergy of the mind-hack and that damned chip in his head let some kind of activation go out. He would know that. He wouldn’t know particulars past that (not without some kind of assess, probably, and even then probably not without some gear, now that his beautiful mind moment has passed), but his roll did leave him going “okay need to warn the team, warn Otto”, so we go forward with him knowing something is happening, if not precisely what. And that his dad is probably definitely in the “go big or go to prison” state of mind at this point.

Actually, I’m going to amend that - a basic Assess the Situation on the logical facts of the situation as Leo knows them, and the conclusions to draw from that, is not at all out of the question.

Somewhere in robot invasion thread, GG will put two and two together and understand what she perceived about Leo’s brain chip when we were all body-swapped.

That’s like Chekhov’s Sniper Rifle.
