FabU Session 07 - "Hunting Down Our Quarry"

Last Time

The bridge is under construction by an Archmagus-created Giant, who wants to refurb the bridge, making it unavailable.

Trying to find out what happened to the people who went off to a mysterious quarry of blue stone.

We look for the quarry

(Along the coast, south of the bridge) PICTURE

We travel there, then we search . (Each has a “travel” roll associated.)
Travel roll: D8 for the area,

Sarah makes the roll. No trouble on our trip down. Ruins. No evidence of travelers.
Mizzle evaluates. Built during the AM’s regime. More likely destroyed more recently – 20-40 years, after the Fall.

We search … and …
… there are systems in the clank that don’t work any more. But a signal is now coming through those “dead” systems. Investigate … and (Critical Fail)
Our Clank marches off! And can’t seem to get it to respond or stop!

Sara makes contact with the Trimaldis, who don’t want the clank stopped (yet).

About 10-15 min … reach a clearing … a ridge … drops off to a quarry!
On the ridge: another group of constructs! Guard bots.
Trimaldis: Hmmmm … one systems, a trace lighting up to a bank of lights … give it a yank …the clank stops! And the controls are now responding!

Battle!

The other constructs are turning our way. We get to go first!

Round 1

The Trimaldi Bros. take over one of them!
He gets hit by a bolt!
Mizzle summons the Neko Monarch! It pulls out a deck of cards.

Soldier shoots at the Trimaldi Bros! Damage and slowed!
Soldier 4 shoots at our Soldier 3 … Misses
Soldier 3 hits Soldier 5 - hits, damages, slows.
Soldier 5 hits Soldier 3 - more damage!

Round 2

Mizzle bonks Soldier 1 with a Tome. And does a fancy trick to do damage to everyone. They all fall down!

Except our trapped Soldier 3 …

Aftermath

Question Soldier 3:

  • 4 captives in the brig.
  • 10 guardian soldiers, 1 security system.
  • Map of the area … quarry … mine shaft … tunnel to a security base / brig.
  • The other 5 at the Charging Station.

Mizzle asks a whole bunch of questions.

Last order from Central (prior to fall of the AM): patrol!

Clanks are Vuln to Bolt and Fire. Resist to Dark, Rock, Cold. Immune to Poison. TBs build a Bolt-based Magicannon.

Figure out how to hear incoming comms from the Security System (but not give it access to the command functions in the clank).
System is trying reach the fallen soldiers.

Onward!

Make our way down into the quarry – not as plentiful in blue rock than we’d want.

Make our way across.

Mine shaft boarded up. Base tunnel is reinforced, stone door.

Huh.

Mizzle discusses how to take over all the AM soldier clanks (avoid battle with them; use them for mining, or helping the Treshenko folk in relocating). Using the memory of the grimoire to summon it, how do we command the constructs in the area with the Authority of the Arch-Magus.

Vision of the past …
… soldiers driving the miners …
… security system construct, with line back to Central … which is now broken …
… seal of the AM’s sigil, making an order of it, disengaging the security system …

Someone with a sigil could give such an order OR a command could be sent from a system in Central (what? where?) that could override the system.

The Senator would be interested.

Vision showed where cables were buried. Tie in and … just yell in the Security System’s ear.
Mizzle … knows where to go. Leads the way!

We find the spot, and Sara starts digging.

Tinkerer Project: Complexity of 100Z (vs the 91 I have).
Build in half a day.
Start hearing errors from the system, then static, then nothing.

Down into the Dark

Back to the door …
Plan: Bust, confirm if the security system is actually down or just pretending to be …

Open the door. Not sealed.

Enter in … cool glow … security system showing red Errors on the screen. Soldier constructs sit in charging bays.
Cells – people, asking to be rescued.

TB - turn off security system!

Which means the clanks won’t wake up from charging soon.

Free the prisoners. Folks from the Bridge house, who came here by the giants’ command.
Quarry has been stripped bare.

Look around.
Gear – 200Z of Project Work magitech resources.
A Weapon! – Microwave Longarm

(Similar to Trimaldis existing Magicannon, but (a) Poison and (b) does +2 more damage)

40 yrs ago, right before fall of AM, quarry was depleted, Got the security system shut down to allow evacuation of the workers.

Disappointment from the freed prisoners about the mine being tapped out. But we head back to the giant …
