Episode Theme: Raymond Scott - “Powerhouse” (1937)
(More background)
FabU Session 26 - “Powerhouse”
Last Time
We got Hector’s medical stuff to him.
We got his mail from the Paw Post.
We met Ambra, one of the squirrelkin foundlings. Who was a bitch.
We sent her a message via Mizzle. We hung out in Parmis. Then we sailed off toward Telogrod.
This Time
Send a message (and protective charm) to Melodi!

Paw Post Express. Storm Crow message/protection – Mizzle succeeds!

First leg to Drellin’s Ferry, easy territory – no problem!
Next Leg toward Elonian territory, medium danger (but thanks to Mizzle, easier) – no problem!
Last leg to Telegrod - no problem!
Rests on the Boat.
Sara → Ambra
Mizzle → Ambra
Telegrod!
Tall statues of the Archmagus. Not well-maintained.

And … flags of the Elonian Military.
Nobody seems surprised or perturbed.
Mizzle looks at the guide to see what has changed.
Saraid wearing disguise.
Docks are busy. Lots of raw materials and supplies.
Aetheric Sensor!
- Common: Earth, Light, Wind
- Uncommon: Dark, Fire
- And a pull NNW in the mountains (Aetheric Substation). But … also some packages going by on the docks – i.e., highly magical stuff being shipped around.
Find out about the actual power structure in town.
And where are we staying and eating.
And is Elonia doing something sketech with the Aetheric Substation?
There are more settlements on the north and east of the lake (Lake Luyis).
Another Golden Dragon Inn.

We check in. (Only pay when we “Rest”)
Seeing a few Elonian soldiers. No city guards.
- Chatting with locals - whazzup? → Tavern Talk with Mizzle!

Asking questions.

Q What’s the sitch with the Elonians?
A A few years ago, a riot amongst miners from the mountains. The city council called the Elonians in to break up the riots. They never completely left. (Did they provoke the riots? Seems that way, according to rumors.)

Q What is the basis for the Elonian’s power?
A Zeal and dedication among the rank and file. (Also Killer Magtit
Q General feel?
A Drudgery. Oppressive. People keeping their heads down. From …?
Mizzle (studying): (10) – As the Elonians have moved in, theyve supplanted the local City Council as leadership of town, leading to some strife and dislike.
… write to the Senator about having them rethink their approach. Mizzle does this. (HOW SECURE? “Pretty secure” - the Paw Post is sacrosanct.)
But as we are heading to the Paw Post … a loud noise … with little surprise. What was that? “Oh, Elonia must have sent out their hunter drone. Again.” Used against bandits, etc. “Arsenal Cobra.”

Bulletin Board on the post. Bounty Notice:
A notice declaring a bounty for any and all squirrelkin, paying 5,000 zenit for each turned over to Fort Vigilant in Elonia, dead or alive. The bounty is authorized by the Elonian High Council. In a section labeled “How to Recognize,” the notice lists several physical features, include orange/brown fur and a large, bushy tail.

The City Council is ostensibly in charge. But they have basically ceded all their power to the local Elonian commander. Mafia-like. Soft control over Luyis.
They have heard of the Tarot gang, crossroad bandits to the east. (Jenny connection.)
Q What’s being mined? Where? Is it involved in the Aetheric Substation?
(Mizzle and Trimaldis could figure it out … investigating the crates … asking question … )
A Trimaldis: 6 … reroll with Family bond to 8, add info to working with Mizzle to 11.
If they were taken from the wellspring of the Aether, they would have more gemstones. Most likely on the periphery … maybe connections, but not the core.
So … maybe stop the access to the Aetheric Substation? Or get the miners in control?
Off to the Aetheric Substation!
So … sneak out of town.
Trimaldis in charge?
Sara … doesn’t help?
Mizzle does!
We sneak!
Use the Aether Sensor … to track it. What is in-between?
We avoid leaving a trail.
Find the cabling … and find the door inset to the mountain, covered with snow (try to cover our path). Looks very similar. Does not seem to be messed with.
(Mizzle is trying to keep Prisma from emulating the Arsenal Cobra)
Saraid heads for the door. Laser scanner. Door opens.
Inside!
Conduit through the room, heading deep into the mountain.
We can touch it in particular places to specific places.
TBs are pretty sure that we can get to the control room through the top center …
…
… (getting Prisma not to do it themselves)
…
… poof!
Entrance to the Control Room.
Doors open.
Get some information about what’s going on.
Drawing a lot of ambient light ether from the area. At current depletion rates, 9-800 years before the area will be depleted.
Saraid watches for guards.
Things to do: All collection being sent off to “main hub” (Golden Valley substation). Turn off? Ratchet down the power?
Shift control to the central hub? Sounds like a good idea.
(The station is actually reducing the supply, slowly, from mining.)
We do that.
We start to hear a beeping noise, and the lights turn red.
Voice: “UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS DETECTED.” From outside!

The door peels open, and we see … a Quiet Knight!
Looks the same as the last one, armor, rust pattern … but with an energy construct.
This is the intruder.
“CONTROL ROOM COMPROMISED. DEPLOYING … NO DEFENSE FOUND.”

- Mizzle - AP attack! Takes him down to 22. Can’t make the attack (flying).
- QN - Welcoming Death.
- Saraid - Spell Buffet! Down to 0 HP, no spells discovered. …
He drops to the ground … then the crackling arm moves independently for a moment … then seems to be sucked into a portal, including the QK.

Confusing. Mizzle studies. Misses, but FP … and FP … it’s … magic. Related to the substation. It pulled him back someplace. (UP spend).

The Claw seemed to be more against us than the QK.

The TBs are sure they can study what happened to another Armored character … and so not.

Mizzle is smug.
Sara studies. Prolly pulled back to their master Surdak. Not in this world. Or we aren’t of this world.
The master of the Quiet Knight, it is not known where Surdak currently is as the Grimoire would only say that he was “beyond this world.”
Which kind of means we are in a Domain like the Stream of Souls.
End of Session
