Nice level-up!
Last time …
We met the final squirrelkin, Zeal. Happy to meet us (but their “dad,” Dr. Armin, wasn’t).
Rose, and Clover & Dotani, showed up.
Lady Ambra appeared as a Harpy …
This time …
… grievously injures Dotani, and preps to attack us! But not before Dr A tries to have a happy moment.
“You! You can fix me!”
“Oh, no, it’s happened?”
She grabs him and starts to fly away …
Challenge!
Three things going on:
- Dotani is grievously injured – clock (4)! Goes down (4), and dies on 0. We can’t affect the clock, but …
- Stabilize Dotani – clock (8)!
- Ambra is escaping clock (5/10)! If it fills, we stop her from escaping with him.
TBs - Try to buffet LA. Objective Clock - ultimately 17 to her 10, +3 ticks! To 8/10.
Round 1
- LA - Flying away! Objective DEX+WLP, reroll … TBs try to block her, Fumble! She gets an Opportune Boost.
- Mizzle - Difficult to Stabilize Dotani. MGT+WLP. Trait → advance Stabilize.
- LA - Sonic Wings - she erases 2 sections of the Rescue! And 1 UP erase another one!
- Mizzle - Stabilizing Dotani with magic! - reroll - success!
- TBs - Objective – and fail vs her, then tie, then reroll, and she wins!
- Dotani’s health to 3/4.
Round 2
- LA - Flying out of Dodge. TBs beat her – clock to 3/10.
- Saraid - bind the wounds! MGT+DEX – success!
- LA - Boost herself with Gale Grace - free attack twice. Slapping away the TBs!
- Mizzle - tries to do magic, fails, twice.
- TBs … hose clamps on Dotani … stabilize further.
Rose is taken aback, and starts to help. Clove is coming out of shock, so 1/rd +2 bonus.
Round 3
- LA - Flies away! TBs oppose! She rerolls … and again … TBs don’t quite stop her. 1 success! And she does her free Tetrawing Attack. She crits! TBs slowed! And Opportunity clears the clock. She escapes with Dr A!
- Saraid - Success! And FP for another slice.
- Mizzle - Fails.
- TBs - Fails. And fails. Oh, and fails again!
Dotani has just one slice now!
Round 4
- MIzzle - fail.
- Saraid - fail!
- TBs - duct tape! Succeed, + bond with Sq’kin, to stop the clock!
He’s not dead, just horribly weakened.
Whew!
Take him to the Outer Ring nearby for healing.
Saraid grabs a harpy feather left behind …
Cutaway
LA flapping seriously, pulling Doc A, clouds part to show a huge airship.
Back at the hospital
Nobody is feeling victorious.
Seeing to Dotani. TBs wheel in. Saraid can chat with her kin.
Zeal disappeared, and has now reappeared. Seemed awfully panicked. “How did you let her take my papa!” S tries to calm him.
“Some sort of energy with us” so need to do things to avoid being spotted.
Other DNA spliced into the sq’kin?
Clove is feeling wiped out. D will live – a near thing – sobbing, thanks.
(Break)
Mizzle
Watching the ocean.
The Orange Eye of Zenitra … “SO, WHY DID YOU NOT TAKE THE OPTION SURDAK GAVE YOU?”
Would have damaged the Stream of Souls.
Yup. Very wise.
“HOW DID YOU CHOOSE WHICH ALLY TO SAVE?”
We can get Dr A back safely – hopefully – balanced against someone definitely dying.
You will have many more difficult decisions ahead of you if allying against the Elonians. I will loan you my strength if you are willing.
Suuure. Don’t ever let me forget who I am today.
Chuckle. That is wiser than you might expect.
Drifts away, but always still there …
Can’t go after Dr A – must go North.
Tek comes by. Hey, Professor Fyodor had … a smile on his face? Hope all will be okay with Kotani.
I befriended an invisible dragon.
That’s what happens when you leave the Gallimaufry?
Weird sitch.
Goes to find Fyodor.
Back at the Great Library. Glad you stopped by. Anything the Library can do for you?
Books on Arcane Cooking.
Sure – and we have extras of these, so don’t worry. Find good homes for them.
Heck of a day. Best of luck.
Want to check with … then the TBs.
Trimaldis
TBs not happy or feeling effective, so a Project: radios!
Mizzle gives Tek the Questing Knight’s Armor
Montage during rest of building the Project →
Spend 900 (1000 - Visionary 100) = 900.
Relay sound and speech → Medium
Individual item
Permanent = x5
= 1000z
- 100z (Visionary)
Slow project. 1/rest, do <= 1000, varied by:
- Visionary (-100 cost)
- Place amenable to the project
- Adapt an existing item (2x)
Montage!
Mizzle checking on Kotami. Clove watching over him. He should recover, but did a number to him.
If you get bored, ask for a good book.
Mizzle goes to the TBs.
Building radios.
The Trishenkin are being cared for.
But … by who? Why?
Mizzle Arcana: Who or what is providing assistance to the Trimaldi family … the Primordial Deity of the Cold Northern Wastes … Khyrrsz!
Creatures, almost shapeless creatures in the snow … an axe of ice comes out and freezing blood ends up on the snow.
TBs are worried. Daunted. Yikes. But why? And not a comforting figure – they reward those who endure, but are merciless even to supplicants.
But now we know more. Can we … go there now?
Going there now.
Thanks Mizzle.
Saraid is looking at the feather for a ritual.
Mizzle’s advice: don’t blow the roll.
Anything else before we rest and leave?
Mizzle is getting a book to keep track of all the Trishenko residents. No animalkin left behind!
In the category of l’esprit de l’escalier, just as the party is about to leave, Shiny yells, “Wait!”, chitters to his brothers, then runs off, tracks down Lubeck, drags him away from the ongoing interviews by librarians, rattles off at high speed, “We have to hear more about what you said about maybe you thought the animalkin were all from your ship from the stars you came in but had to adapt to this world to be able to live (or die, and relive, or whatever the Stream of Souls does) here, but we don’t have time right now to talk about it because the my family is in danger, so we will come back and ask you more later, so don’t wander off or get killed, okay? Thank you,” apologizes to the librarians, then runs back to the others, and says, “Sorry, we can go now.”
We Rest!
With a calming macro! (That interrupts character sheet text entry!)
XP
FP! UP! We get 13 XP = 16 XP. Woot!
Level up next time!
Mizzle’s Session 42+ agenda:
- Rescue the Trishenko travelers
- Escort them to places of safety
- Locate the missing Druids and solve the Phoenix situation
- Rescue Dr. Armin
- Recover the Central AI unit from the Elonians (so most likely Kill Lady Ambra)
