So we’ve talked a few times about how Fabula Ultima expects its classes to be reskinned to fit the theme of the character, to the point that all classes come with suggested alternate names and some of the sample characters have their classes completely re-themed or even suggestions of major alterations (Invoker wellsprings as seasons, for example). And the themes of the Mutant kinda, sorta hit for Saraid, but only just a bit. So what would a full shift look like?
I took a swing at renaming the class Squirrelkin and leaned into the idea that Saraid’s adaptive aether allows them to mimic creatures and this is just an extension of that. So what does that look like in practice?
| Original Name | New Name |
|---|---|
| Mutant | Squirrelkin |
| Akromorphosis | Squirrel Claws |
| Biophagy | Squirrelkin Regeneration |
| Ecdysis | Adaptive Fur |
| Genoclepsis | Aether Mimic |
| Theriomorphosis | Malleable Aether |
So how about the real problem point, the Therioforms? Well by theming them as aether patterns Saraid can shift to, it opens up a functional if fairly generic naming scheme:
| Original Name | New Name |
|---|---|
| Therioforms | Aether Adaptions |
| Amphibia | Water Aether |
| Arpaktida | Keen Aether |
| Dynamotheria | Strong Aether |
| Electrophora | Lightning Aether |
| Neurophagoida | Hunger Aether |
| Placophora | Hardened Aether |
| Pneumophora | Air Aether |
| Polypoda | Entwined Aether |
| Pterotheria | Soaring Aether |
| Pyrophora | Fire Aether |
| Tachytheria | Quickened Aether |
| Toxicophora | Toxic Aether |
Are there more flavorful suggestions? Sure! Because we could name them after particular characters:
| Original Names | New Names |
|---|---|
| Amphibia | Scylla’s Aether |
| Arpaktida | Mizzle’s Aether |
| Dynamotheria | Ori Orn’s Aether |
| Electrophora | ??? |
| Neurophagoida | Zenit-Eyes’ Aether |
| Placophora | Grandfather Oak’s Aether |
| Pneumophora | Wind Drake’s Aether |
| Polypoda | Prisma’s Aether |
| Pterotheria | Acorn Pixie’s Aether |
| Pyrophora | Scaldworth’s Aether |
| Tachytheria | Trimaldis’ Aether |
| Toxicophora | ??? |
Obviously a lot of options here, especially if we do something fun with it…
Ambra’s Aether
Aether Mimic Suggestions: Ambra, illumination elementals, Elonian soldiers.
When you deal damage with an attack or spell, you may have all that damage become light. While your unarmed strikes deal light damage, any enemy who loses 20 or more Hit Points due to one of your unarmed strikes also suffers enraged.
Lots of spitballing here, but interested to hear what folks think.
