Saraid: seven squirrelkin, some meek and ordinary, some strong, some mysterious….
Saraid: despite looking similar, we’re as unique as the days of the week
(In the background, Elonian Ambra is threatening a hapless dry cleaner)
Saraid: and I know who Monday is
Tiny: Saraid, watch this
Tiny: (loudly) in Trishenko, we’ll have to visit the Grand Library!
Mizzle: (sparkling, grinning)
Tiny: … which burned down!
Mizzle: (doomed, forlorn)
Tiny: Fortunately everybody had checked out all the books at the time, and returned them when the building was reconstructed!
Mizzle: (sparkling, grinning)
SHINY: Don’t tell him there are only a dozen books in the library.
WHINY: But they all have lots of pictures, which are worth thousands of words!
TINY: Um, I might have about 15% of the Grand Library tucked between the Mana Regulator and the Water Recycler.
MIZZLE: You know I don’t know what all that chittering is about.
TINY: Nothing to worry about, most of the Grand Library is Animalkin translation guides.
I have a scene in mind, but no idea how to share it coherently, so I shall do my best.
[Interior. Kendra and Olivia’s home, nighttime. The party is sleeping in various places throughout the couple’s living room. We slowly focus on Mizzle’s pack as a sickly green light begins to emanate from it.]
Surdak (from inside the bag): Finally, the fools have let down their guard. It is time to escape this pathetic prison.
Voice (offscreen): Hey, not so fast!
[We pan over to see Lixana’s journal on the coffee table flip open and the Echo of Saevus rise from the book. He points an finger at the bag.]
Saevus: This is my meal ticket! I’ve finally gotten the inkling of feral rage out of this group and you are not ruining it for me!
Surdak: Quit your rabble, whelp. You will be the first I consume in my re-ascension!
[We pan back to the bag to see that Zenit-Eyes has waddled over to the bag.]
Surdak: And what is this? Another minor demon thinking-
[Zenit Eyes slaps the hell out of the bag with their stubby tentacles, light inside the bag flashing off and on as they wail on it. At first the Surdak grunts in pain but eventually that and the light both die off.]
[We pan back to Saevus in the book chuckling at Zenit Eye’s actions.]
Saevus: Good job shutting up that upstart, newbie. Us demons got to stick together to keep our good thing going.
[The shadow of Zenit Eyes looms over Saevus and the feral demon starts to look afraid. The screen fades out before we again hear the sound of Zenit Eyes slapping the hell out of someone and Saevus grunting in pain.]
[After a few moments, we fade back in on Saraid slowly coming to from their sleep.]
Saraid (drowsily): What’s that noise?
[We pan over, following Saraid’s line of sight to see Zenit Eyes waddling over towards them.]
Saraid: Oh did someone need to get up? Come here, little guy.
[Saraid reaches out and scoops up Zenit Eyes, bringing the demon in for cuddle. Zenit Eye’s eyes light up with happiness as Saraid falls back to sleep, arm drapped around Zenit Eyes like they were a stuffed animal. Zenit Eyes snuggles in deeply, sparing a glance over to Lixana’s journal and Mizzle’s bag to ensure no one is trying anything before shutting their eyes as well.]
Personally I imagine Surdak sounding like Hazanko from Outlaw Star, so the idea of a character with that voice getting the shit slapped out of them by a comedy relief character is hilarious to me.
This is both the “skit” and “comedy” part of Skits and Comedy.
Oh that part was less in doubt, more a “do i write it was prose?” “Do i make it a comic?” Eventually I settled on script direction and hoped it worked, which I think it did.
Shiny: there’s pressure on our city
Tiny: the exodus could become a diaspora
Whiny: everyone’s on edge
Shiny: that’s why crime is up
Tiny: drugs, theft, murder
Whiny: it’s become a hotbed of corruption
Shiny: that’s why we’re joining law enforcement, to enforce the peace
Tiny: but we’re going undercover, so nobody suspects us
Whiny: we’re joining… Trishenko Vice
(80’s music plays)
Saraid: what are you reading this week?
Mizzle: it’s a series of mystery books where the villain commits crimes with chemistry, and there’s a hero chemist who always figures out the specific mixtures and processes and stuff that was used
Saraid: is it interesting?
Mizzle: well, it’s strictly formula
Law & Order: Special Species Unit:
In the animalkin justice system, the critters are represented by two separate yet equally important groups: the raccoons on the ground who scavenge for crime, and the raccoons loaded back up in a clank who shoot the snot out of the offenders. These are their stories.

Mizzle: mythology sometimes describes the three phases of a woman’s life with the labels “Maiden”, “Mother”, and “Matron”
Mizzle: do you ever feel like your life matches that?
Saraid: my life is more like Mystified, Managing, and Mad
